• acquisition of the knowledge necessary for managing the health and welfare of laboratory animals and useful for ensuring the hygiene of research facilities and colonies;
• acquisition of fundamental knowledge to recognise states of pain, suffering and stress in species commonly used in laboratories and definition of humane endpoints;
• acquisition of basic knowledge of anaesthesia, analgesia and ethical suppression methods;

- • in-depth knowledge of national (legislative decree no. 26/2014) and european (eu directive 63/2010) legislation in force concerning the protection of animals used for scientific purposes;
• acquisition of technical and scientific knowledge and skills in the breeding, maintenance and care of animals used for scientific purposes and the principles of laboratory animal ethology;
• acquisition of skills in the breeding, care and environmental enrichment of animals used for scientific research purposes and the principles of laboratory animal ethology;
• acquisition of knowledge of the fundamental principles of bioethics involving human-animal relations, animal behaviour, the value of life and the use of animals in scientific research;
• acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary for the correct formulation of research projects involving the use of experimental animals, with particular reference to the assessment of the severity of procedures and harm/benefit, in accordance with the provisions of legislative decree no. 26/2014;
• understanding and application of the basic principles of the 3rs (replacement, reduction and refinement) and the role, function and scientific validity of the results of research conducted using methods alternative to the use of animals;
